Jingle Bell Run for Arthritis

The Jingle Bell Run, benefiting the Arthritis Foundation is coming up on Saturday December 3rd. The run is going to be held at the Dayton Mall, this is a great way to have fun with friends, do something active and help out a worthy cause. I am on the planning committee and I wanted to share the information. If you or anyone you know is interested in participating please sign up. About Admiral William Halsey

American Admiral William "Bull" Halsey Jr. won a Navy Cross during World War I and led the Third Fleet against Japan in World War II. He was born in New Jersey in 1882. After serving on battleships and torpedo craft in World War I, he went back to school at age 52 to become a naval aviator. General MacArthur called Halsey the greatest fighting admiral of World War II. His motto was, "Hit hard, hit fast, hit often." The Japanese signed their surrender on his flagship. He died in 1959.

When I think of Admiral Halsey I think of Paul McCartney and Uncle Albert!

George Harrison-Living In The Material World

This is a quick post just to let you know about the new film by Martin Scorsese about George Harrison. It's going to be shown on HBO, I don't get that channel so I will have to wait for the DVD or set it some other way but...looking forward to it!

I have attached a link to an article in the Los Angeles Times about the film. I'd put a little more effort into this post but I'm a little under the weather right now. If you get a chance to see it let me know how it is, hope to watch it sometime soon myself...

About Pablo Picasso

Pablo Picasso, the Spanish painter at the forefront of Cubism, is perhaps best known for his painting Guernica, which depicts the hopelessness and violence of war. The masterpiece hung in the Museum of Modern Art in New York until democracy was restored in Spain; the painting was then sent home, where it hangs now at Reina Sofí a, Spain's national museum of modern art. Born in Spain in 1881, Picasso spent his adult life in France. Although he's known for his abstract paintings, his realistic work, particularly his Blue Period, was equally accomplished. He loved to be surrounded by friends and had multiple love affairs. He died in 1973.

Some notes on today's shuffle, love the New Radicals, they only put out one album, but very good all the way through. Los Lobos doing Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On", it's a live version, they are one of the most underrated bands out there, put on a great show, I've had the good fortune to have seen them a few times. Inner City Blues by Marvin Gaye is a live version from the remastered deluxe cd of "What's Going On", this was recorded at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC in 1972. "I Know What I Like" from Genesis was recorded live at the Rainbow in 1973 and was taken from their Archives sampler cd. "A Pirate Looks At Forty" from Jimmy Buffett appeared on the live "You Had To Be There" album. "I Will Run To You" by Stevie Nicks was written by Tom Petty and features Tom Petty & The Hearbreakers on the track.

On This Day In History...
This is something that I will try and keep up on as well on a fairly regular basis, this is the first one:

On Oct. 2, 1967, Thurgood Marshall was sworn in as an associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, becoming the first black to serve on the high court.

In my opinion one of the most important Supreme Court Justices in the history of our nation. We could use someone like him on the court today!

I currently have just over 5,000 songs uploaded in my iTunes player (just a few shy of your number Tim), slowly getting more in there. I really like the variety from just putting it on shuffle and letting it play, alot of songs will come up that I never would've thought of playing, forgotten about or just looked over for something else.

Some comments on this particular version of my shuffle, "Ready Or Not" by Jackson Browne has always been one of my favorites by him, along with "Redneck Friend". The song "I Don't Want To Talk About It", done here by Rod Stewart was written by Danny Whitten, one of the members of Crazy Horse. They released a version of the song on their debut album "Crazy Horse" in 1971. I like their version better...but iTunes didn't pick that one today, maybe next time.

KC's Speakeasy Is Up & Running

My name is Kevin, sometimes known as KC, thus the title of the blog, KC's Speakeasy.

This blog will cover topics of interest to me, music, sports, movies, photography, current events, politics, health, food, local happenings and anything else that happens to come to my mind.

I'm new at this, in terms of writing, hopefully I will get better at it as I go along and continue to do this. I hope you find the blog interesting and your comments are welcome! Any advise on improving the blog is more than welcome as well.

I'm sure I will stumble (& maybe even fumble) as I go along here with this but I'm excited and looking forward to making this work and hopefully giving you, the reader, a reason to come back to check it out.
